Shock that blog!, Residential Gateway, and a Wake Up Call to all Christians

- How the Ham’s Cooking

Clear! [Defibrillator Paddles sizzle with charge and blasts voltage into a convulsing blog and suddenly, HamOnTheTech is back!!!!] So I'm back to blogging, and I'll quietly duck the critics who want to blast me for not posting since April. Actually, so many of my fans pleaded that I blog again because they so missed my blog and; Okay I can't even finish that fib. It's obvious that no one missed my blog, but that's not a prob. I haven't put much into it, so I can't expect much from it. However, in the next few months any readers who happen to read due to my crying and nagging of them to do so, will find that I will be including some thought provoking subjects in - The World section. And when some read what I will type, I'm sure my sanity will be questioned. But some recent research of mine has proven that the many things I counted to be true in this world, are not even close. And I continue to research these new topics. I know I'm being a bit evasive, but the readers will understand in time. Don't be confused though, I'm not saying I have changed my beliefs. By no means. I still believe in Jesus as being my savior and that it's only the by the shedding of His blood that can save us from our unrighteousness. Those who don't necessarily believe this, don't worry. I'm not going to thump you with my Bible. As I have said in my first post (see above for the link), I'm not here to force my beliefs on anyone. So for the next couple of months, if you do actually get around to reading –The World section of my blog posts, buckle down and brace. The reality ride is about to get bumpy.

- The Tech: Residential Gateway and Hacker fears!

So I've recently had to suggest to several of my home users that they should purchase a residential gateway to install in between their Internet connection and their computer. This is very important as it helps to protect your IP identity and keeps most hackers out. However as I start my spiel, I can see their eyes gloss over as the tech jargon gushes forth from me like water rushing over falls. So I thought I would take the time to explain in this series of - The Tech what a residential gateway is, where it’s installed, and why it’s ever so necessary to do so.
First, let’s start with some introductory info so that you can understand the importance of a residential gateway. The way that Internet service works is your ISP (Internet Service Provider) buys a block of Public IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. These addresses are regulated and sold by the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). Created in 1998, the ICANN is a non-profit corporation in California whose job is to manage the assignment of public IP addresses and domain names. Keep in mind that “public” word when I just described the IP addresses. So once your ISP buys a block of public IP addresses, they then assign each customer an individual IP address. Think of this IP address as a home telephone number, which identifies how someone can call you directly at your residence. When you plug your computer straight into your Cable or DSL modem, your computer uses that “public” IP address when you surf out on the web to request the data displayed on a website. When website servers receive your request, they use that IP address to send data back to you. So essentially, your computer is exposed to the World, emphasis on World. Seriously, go back and imagine me screaming the word World at you when you reread it again. Go ahead, I’ll wait here…. Oh good your back. Let’s continue. So if someone was able to figure out your IP address, they could also receive and\or send data that you don’t know about to your computer. It’s like keeping your phone off the hook and anyone in the entire world just has to dial your number and can listen in on everything you think you are privately saying. Just think of the calamitous catastrophes that would occur should people hear what we actually say about them in our own homes!!!

Of course telephones don’t work that way since people receive a busy signal once you take your phone off the hook. I’m already receiving emails claiming my comparison above about phones is not possible. Please people, it’s hypothetical and how did you email me about it before I even posted??? Is my phone off the hook??

The point though is that your PC does work this way as long as it is powered on. So if a hacker gets your IP address, (and trust me when I say there is a ton of software out there, some absolutely free, to help them do so), then they can start sending commands to your PC. Now it’s not exactly easy to do, but most hackers doing this have pre-programmed software to do their vexatious bidding for them.

Just to give some further perspective, I’ll share two true quick stories with you summarizing hacker deeds that I’ve come across in lending computer support to residential users. One PC I was asked to work on literally would crawl to a stop when it was booted up. It was directly connected to a cable modem for internet access. I had to wipe the hard drive clean since it was so infected with spyware and viruses that I couldn’t even boot it up to repair it. Once I had the PC loaded back to it’s original state, I reinstalled it with a residential gateway in between the cable modem and the PC. After doing so, I was detecting that PCs from Asia and Germany were trying to access this PC. However, the gateway was showing that it was now blocking their connections. The second story involves an older couple who also had no gateway, and found that their Internet access was cancelled because their PC had been hacked and was being used to send copious amounts of spam to unsuspecting people. You can and will evidentially be hacked if you do not protect your PC.

Now that I’ve successfully given you nightmares of PC hacking and increased your stress level for the day, let’s talk about a residential gateway and how it can protect you. First, let me start out with the horribly misconceived notion that your ISP helps with this problem. They will automatically change your IP address approximately every three months, depending on their operating procedures. It’s not to protect you though. They do this to try and interrupt anyone who pays for Residential service but is trying to host a website server. You can pay to have a static IP address but this is considered business class service and costs much more. But again, the changing of the IP address every so often doesn’t keep you protected. Think about how much data a hacker could see or install on your PC in just a matter of days! So what is needed is the ability to protect your public IP address no matter when it changes; enter the residential gateway device. Another name for a residential gateway is a broadband router. It provides a connection for you to plug either your telephone line into for DSL, or your network line from your Cable modem. For those who still do dial up, a broadband router is not necessary as every time you dial in, you are assigned a different IP address. The broadband router also provides connections for you to plug one or more PCs into, thereby being an intermediary link between your PC and your Internet connection. In addition, all broadband routers today are also firewall devices, which also blocks advanced hacking assaults against your PC. But we will save a further discussion of that for another day.

Now before you rush out to your local ‘RobAmericaBlind-Mart’ store to buy a broadband router, you may want to check if you already have one as some ISPs will provide a modem that is also a router. Having said this, I have bad news for users who have cable internet service. I have yet to see a Cable ISP who provides a router with their Cable modem. Usually they just give you the modem and then you are on your own. But for DSL users, I have seen many DSL ISPs provide a modem that was also a broadband router\firewall. So call your ISP and find out if you already have one. If you do, I would sit back and enjoy a steaming cup of java as you surf ‘Theif-bay’ for the latest knickknack that you don’t need. If you don’t already have a router, start saving your money and as immediately as you can afford to, go buy one. I recommend the Linksys 4 port Ethernet Broadband Router. It’s model number is BEFSR41 and you can check it out at Circuit City’s website by clicking here: Router at Circuit City. However, there are many other good routers out there as well. If you want to research further, just ‘google’ “broadband router reviews” and have fun reading. Most vendors also sell a model of their router that is also a wireless access point. For those not in the know, this is a device that allows a notebook user to access the Internet without being plugged into the router. Just keep this in mind when you are looking to buy a router if you also want wireless capability. Stay tuned to future –The Tech sections for more information on wireless in the home.

As for installing your newly purchased broadband router, well you can read the manual, (but who does that anymore???), find help on the web, or call in the big tech guns for support. And since I have apparently written a novel already, I’ll end here. And that’s the Tech.

- The World: Please tell me that Christians don’t believe everything they are shovel-fed!!

How to start, how to start?! I have recently had the blind fold ripped back from my pseudo-euphoric salve sickened eyes and have awakened to an entirely different reality of what is going on in our World. As I said above, I’m sure that the many mislead groups of sheeple will question my sanity, and more than likely write me off as a loon. However, the sad fact is that only the people who have been lucky enough to be blessed with a logical and open mind will actually take the time to research and engage in discussion about the many items that will be written here, of which will appear outrageous at first in the months to come. I went through such a phase as well, where I outright denied the evidence, events and reality of which I had been exposed. But then I prayed about it. And prayed, and prayed, and, well you get the idea. And I’m still not 100 percent sure if it’s God’s Will for me to research this new realm of hard truth, but I know that my relationship with Him has grown stronger by understanding what is really happening. So before we start our truth journey, I have to reiterate again, that my core faith beliefs have not changed. In fact, knowing the truth has only strengthened those beliefs and has actually continued to prove Bible wisdom more and more.

So let me start off with a few recent facts about the so called religious part of our society that will, I hope, help my 2.34 readers to start the slow brewing and bubbling ascent into the actual truth about our current realm of living. Now one would think, whether a Christian or not, that the large religious sects of Christianity would have a set of core values that they never stray from. Apparently, this is no longer true. The first example of this is the recent Pat Robertson public endorsement of Rudy Giuliani as the candidate that can “lead the Republican Party to victory in November 2008”. Check it here: Robertson endorsement. What is this news that appears as “filth and foolery”? (*Ham winks at those in the know of the origin of that comment) Now to some it may come as no surprise that good ol’ Patty supports Rudy, as he has gone public with some outrageous off-base things before, like the so called fact that God told him 2006 was going to be a disastrous hurricane year for the East Coast, only to have nothing of the sort come to fruition, see here – Pat's prediction. Yet some occasionally see Pat Robertson on the stupor-tube, (that stands for TV, folks), and think that he is still preaching God’s word and leading the Christian society down the right path. WRONG!!! How wrong is he, you may ask? One only has to check the political bio of the guy that Patty supports to find out. On a page of his official campaign website, neatly tucked away at the very bottom is detail outlining that Rudy opposes “any attempt to change restrictions on federal funding for abortion”. Check it here: Rudy and abortion. Also, Rudy claims he doesn’t personally believe in gay marriage, but has no problem with making it legal. Check it here and again nicely plopped down on the bottom: Rudy and gay marriage. Now whether you are personally for or against abortion or gay marriage, what should be a surprise is the fact that Robertson endorses Rudy, since Pat has said in the past that every Christian should only vote for candidates that oppose every aspect of abortion and gay marriage. Another tidbit of info that makes this endorsement more surprising is that the media reported on several occasions of Rudy having an affair with his current wife, Judith Nathan, while still legally and openly married to his second wife, Donna, all the while condemning Bill Clinton for his extra-marital affair. Now it’s not for me to judge what Rudy does in his personal life, but I think it does reflect on his ability to carry out any public office. If Rudy has no integrity and respect for his own wife, how much more will he have for the American people? More importantly, the Bible speaks against adultery, so what is Robertson doing supporting this guy???

Another example of supposed Christian leaders taking pot shots at the Christianity’s core values is the most outrageous claims of John Hagee. This false teacher who has garnered a large congregation in his church has for the most part seemed as if he is teaching God’s Word throughout the years. And although I have heard some Christian friends say that he gets a little out there on some things, they believe that for the most part he does seem a legit preacher. That is until now. This news didn’t break main stream media until the beginning of November, but apparently in his new Book, ‘In Defense of Israel’, John Hagee claims that Jesus did NOT come to Earth as the Messiah. He also claims that Jesus himself by word and deed claimed to NOT be the Messiah. Now that is definitely ‘filth and foolery’!!! If you can stand to read this sick pack of lies, see here for the article: What is Hagee thinking?. And if you want to hear it in his own revolting words, watch the embedded video below.

Has this guy lost it?!! If he is not the preview of the Anti-Christ, I don’t know what is! To Hagee: How dare you sir, how dare you sit there in your comfortable ministry making tons of money, acting as if you are doing God’s work, and then grow horns of deception and tell your followers that Jesus was not the Messiah???!!!! May God have mercy on your doomed soul!!

The reason why this is such a big deal is that the Bible tells us that in the end times there would be false teachers, wolves in sheep’s clothing, leading the church farther and farther from the truth. It’s well known that Robertson and Hagee are considered the top level leaders of the Christian society and that they together have a large number of followers. So they are leading many people who blindly follow them down a dark path. Hopefully my readers, whether Christians or not, are smart enough to not to put their faith in any man, but in God. This is why church goers should search God’s Word out on the things that their Preacher preaches, to make sure they are on target with the Bible. Having said all of this, I’m not trying to be a harbinger of doom and gloom and say that the World will end tomorrow because of the treason of both these men. But I am saying that these things should point to the very thing that I believe the Bible essentially tells us, and that is to not believe everything we are fed, whether by so called church leaders or even by our government. I have a ton of scary facts about our government that makes that last statement a loaded comment. But I will have to blog about that at a later time. And that’s the Ham on the World.

- Closing

Hackers, and lying preachers, and fear, Oh my! I hope everyone reading realizes that my point in all of this is that we need to wake up out of our slumber that the world is pretty and bright and everything is fine because our so called leaders, False Preachers, our Congress, our President, etc. tells us that everything is fine and that we should just believe them. Wrong sir, wrong!!! We should look for ourselves, question the data we are fed, and make our own conclusions. The way our beliefs, and country for that matter, are being eroded out from under us, I can’t help but repeat Dorothy’s famous line, ‘Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore!’.

Spyware; Dunn Justice?; and a soggy blog?

Post #: 3

[If you are new to my blog, please read my first post to gain perspective: Blog Diddy Blog Blog ]

- Well folks, it appears I have completely dropped the ball. My last post was in September of ’06 (Wow I’m long overdue) and I’m just now dragging myself around to posting again. Not that blogging is a chore, (hey it pays the bills…, uhhh actually it doesn’t), but it’s very much like when you forget to cut the grass for two weeks. ‘Excuse me?’ you may be saying. When the grass becomes too high, it’s harder to cut and takes longer. As you are contemplating when you have time to cut said grass, other things take priority and before long, it’s been 4 weeks and the grass is scratching your knees. And as you are figuring out how to now cut much taller grass, life happens. And now it’s been six weeks, the grass is tickling your nose, and the neighbors are threatening legal action. So everyone follows the simile, right?

The point is, how do you start blogging again when you haven’t for months without everyone ridiculing you? The answer? Someone? Anyone? You in the back?

I finally decided that the best thing was to post, take the snickers, (not the candy bar, but hey if anyone’s got one….) and move on to a healthier posting lifestyle. That said, moving on…

- Life has been, well, life. Could be better, and could be worse. I know I could’ve done without a rotten odor forming in one of my vehicles, which I now believe is the by-product of a quietus rodent who decided to make a home somewhere in my engine. Interestingly I learned that this is not that uncommon. I found that many people had commented online about their misfortunes with mice in their cars. My problem is that I can’t find where the thing has died, hence the numerous NeutraAir cans that litter my floorboard. I guess it could be worse, though. I could be in a situation where I can’t afford a car for a mouse to crawl into to expire. Yeah, I’m gonna err on the side of caution and take it as a blessing.

As far as work related things, I recently wrapped up a big project where… [We interrupt this posting for a special announcement. For those of you who are not techie geeks, you may want to just jump to the next, uh… dash “-“ thingy. Go on. Just right below. There you go. Okay. Buh bye.]… I configured a Cisco PIX firewall to include a new VPN rule set for a new subnet in a new facility. For redundant secondary data links, the company I work for uses IPSec tunneling via an ISP line to connect back to our Corp. offices. I then successfully did the same thing on a 3Com Office Connect router I was using as a backup on another ISP line. I also successfully meshed all of our remote sites by reconfiguring all of our Cisco routers to include this new facility. So yay for me!!! Okay, I’m not actually that arrogant, but this is the first time I successfully accomplished all of this as one big project to initiate data services for a new site. So I’m kind of happy about it. Okay, I’m over myself now, moving on…

- The Tech
Spyware. Many PC users deal with it, and many companies are trying to find a way to make a profit from it. Spyware has become a catch all term for any software that wreaks havoc with your PC. But it’s original meaning was software that was installed unbeknownst to the user which tracked sites visited, credit card numbers typed in, etc. and reported this info back to a server, all with the unsuspecting user simply thinking that their PC has become slow. Spyware has now become known to include other bad programs, such as Malware – malicious software better known for deactivating your antivirus and installing multiple virus infections, and Adware – software that pops up ads even if you are not surfing the web. In any case, Spyware equals bad. The big problem with Spyware is not that you can become easily infected. It’s that it is not so easy to become uninfected. Ok, that’s confusing so let’s try again. It’s that you need to be an App (application) and OS (operating system) expert with 5 hours of your life that you will never get back, to remove Spyware infections.

But not so much anymore. One of the best tools to deal with Spyware and is still free, (okay now I have your attention, don’t I?), is Microsoft’s Windows Defender. Now I will by no means champion MS (Microsoft) as the bestest software company around. But I have to give credit where it’s due. (And speaking digitally, it is a MS world, but I don’t have to like it!!!) You will find it on Microsoft’s Download center, or just save time and click here and select number 2 in the list.

Not only does it remove Spyware, but it helps to protect against future infections by blocking software installs until you approve them. The only downside I have seen with Defender is that even though you may schedule it to scan your PC at 2:00AM, (Of course those of you who surf into the wee hours of the morning may want to set it at 10:00AM, when you will be sleeping!) it will start scanning after a boot up, especially if your PC was off during the scheduled scan. And when it does scan, your PC will crawl, literally. Like on all fours with it’s belly dragging. It will take forever for you to surf the web and to open any files.

Captain Obvious tells us that this will become very annoying, especially if you are booting up your PC in order to actually accomplish something. The good news is that you can stop the scan by opening the Defender console and selecting ‘Stop Scan’.

So If you don’t have a Spyware blocker installed, than get Windows Defender. The alternative? Deciding if your PC can double as a chic new style of flower pot, since the Spyware is so bad that you can’t even use it. And that’s the Tech.

- The Gloss: ISP (Internet Service Provider) - a company that provides access to the Internet. In addition to serving individuals, ISPs also serve large companies, providing a direct connection from the company's networks to the Internet. (Source: Webopedia) Some examples of ISPs are Verizon, Comcast, StarPower, and ZoomInternet.

- The World
So in light of the recent events surrounding the HP Boardroom scandal, more specifically former HP Chairwoman Patricia Dunn, I guess justice is only served if the defendant is in good health??? While I reel my jaw from the floor back into place, let me type some background info so that everyone can understand my baffled and perplexed reaction.

Several months back, it was suspected that someone on Hewlett Packard’s board was leaking info to the press. So Patricia Dunn, then Chairwoman for HP, did what every civil minded person would do. (Later on in your reading, you will realize that I’m being sarcastic. Oops, I spoiled it for you) She called for an investigation that included pretexting, which is where someone calls a company pretending to be you and asks for a copy of whatever records that company has of you. In this case, the private investigation company working for HP called phone companies and pretexted everyone on the board and even prominent tech magazine journalists for their personal phone records. Don’t believe me, read for yourself an article as this scandal was ripening back in November at CNET - click here. However, even though evidence mounted showing Dunn had knowledge of the investigation and was involved, she claims that she didn’t know about the pretexting.

Whether she did or not, isn’t my beef here. My problem is that at the trial, the judge dismissed the charges against her in light of her medical condition. Read here. Now if none of you know, she has cancer. But for the love of cheese, what does that have to do with anything???? I’m not downplaying her health here. I can only imagine what she lives with in her fight against cancer. But that cannot negate her responsibility for being involved with and even possibly initiating a crime!!!

So if a drunk driver kills a mother and her kids in a head-on collision, but survives, he shouldn’t be tried because he also broke his leg in the accident??? Or to better compare this situation with Dunn’s, he shouldn’t be tried because he also has an incurable, possibly fatal disease??? Am I missing something??? I’m pretty sure that our founding fore-fathers didn’t set in motion our justice system to only put on trial those who are physically healthy to be tried. Maybe I’m being insensitive here, but in common sense land, if you commit a crime you should be tried for it. And if found guilty, serve the appropriate sentence. Uh-oh Toto. Looks like we aren’t in common sense land anymore!

- So I guess we shall see in the comments section if anyone agrees with my take on the Dunn\HP Scandal opinion. That’s if anyone actually reads my blog long enough to make it to ‘The World” section. From what I’ve read though, some techies already have the same viewpoint as me on this. And hopefully, any of you reading will definitely take my word on Windows Defender. Because Spyware ain’t no good thing. And of course I will give the old college try to ensure that my next post is sooner than 5 months from now. Because a bloggy is soggy when there are no new posts. Am I right? Someone? Anyone? You in the back????

Anyone for Seconds?

If you missed my first post, check it here: First post

-Yipppeeee! Someone actually read my blog! Okay, “yipppeeee” doesn’t sound manly, but you get the point. And the fact that everyone was laughing it up as I was telling others that I have a blog didn’t matter. Just that someone actually used up valuable time from their day to read my attempt at a decent blog evokes a “yipppeee”.

-Yes, it’s been a while since my first post. Yes, I am berating myself for starting a blog where I only posted once. Yes, I can’t stop typing yes. But in my defense, I only just received my first comment, so now I’m back in the saddle trying to make my blog stick as a weekly routine. (Tangent: Thanks US for reading, even though I remember one of you saying something along the line of “only teenagers have blogs”. Teen shmeen, I beg to differ. If you want to know the truth about blogging, it all began when tech geeks started keeping opinionated logs of stuff they had seen on the web or programs they had created. Just ask Jorn Barger. So ha! Well, don't really ask him as he is a little out there, but just read the early weblogging credit that wikipedia gives him. And again, ha!)

-Needless to type, a lot has happened. Instead of slogging through the many details, I’ll give a brief overview. I’ve recently entered a fantasy football league with my two brothers-in-law and one of their friends. We had our live draft this past week. I picked up Larry Johnson, quite arguably one of the most sought after running backs in FF (fantasy football). And the rest of my roster doesn’t look half bad. So I guess I will be watching more football than normal trying to keep up with how many points my players earned every week. As if I have time to watch more football. Also, in order to shed some poundage, I signed up for…. (here is the big pause before the riotous laughing begins)… fencing. Yes, I typed right. Fencing. No, I’m not talking a college course on how to erect picket or metal fences. You know, the fast action sword fighting with masks. Hey, it’s an Olympic sport, so there. It’s been an interest of mine for along time, and I finally found a place to learn that is local to my traveling route to work. You wouldn’t believe how many fencing places there are in the northeast region of the U.S.A., but not a one near where I live. So that’s the scoop on new stuff. Moving on….

-The Tech
This section is where I plan on bringing tech news and tips in an easy to comprehend format to the masses. If it gets too boring, then let me know in the comments. I’ve been accused of getting overly excited and forgetting that others are not as interested in technical details as I. But that’s what this section is for. So here goes…

-Cell phones. As if there wasn’t already enough to deal with from the devices that seem to cause the most problems, but yet we can’t now seem to live without. First, some scientists believe that touching a cell phone, whether in use or not, during a lightning storm can cause more injury than without one. Although this apparently has been debunked by other scientists, since someone didn’t do all of their homework. Second, a new report states that when you are driving and cell conversing, your driving skills are equivalent to a drunkard’s. But I can’t believe that’s totally true as I have properly executed a drive and talk with a hands free earpiece and seem to have no problem keeping up with what is going on outside of my windshield. But I digress. What’s interesting is that society seems to only be interested in the cell phone while it is in your possession. But what about if you cell it, pun intended, as in putting it on eBay, or even giving it away to your neighbor’s cousin? One would think that selling it is no big deal. And one would be wrong.

Recently I read that a Morgan Stanley VP sold his Blackberry (a device that supports email, web browsing, faxing, and cell use) on eBay because he wanted a newer model and his old one was still worth a few bucks. So he took the battery out for a while and then sold it. But the unsuspecting buyer had quite a shock when he put a new battery in and found that not a byte of data had been deleted. There was clientele info, emails on pending mergers, and even the VP’s investment account numbers. Hhmmmmm… can someone say cha ching? To top that, in another report security experts bought multiple phone devices, from blackberrys to regular cell phones, that had supposedly had all the data deleted. Yet they were able to retrieve the lost data via tools that can be downloaded from the web. And some of the data they retrieved was disturbing. From bank accounts to social security numbers to private text messages. What’s worse is that the experts also found what appeared to be email messages between two people having an extra-marital affair. Ok, I got to admit that they deserved to be caught. But the point is that it wasn’t too hard to find copious amounts of sensitive private info that in the wrong hands could ruin people’s lives.

So what’s the lesson learned for us? Even if your cell phone only has contact info for three people in it, and that’s all, you still need to brush off the 2 inches of dust from your manual, (if you can even find it) and figure out how to completely erase all of the data. And if you can’t find your manual, or you are still unsure if all the data is deleted, drive a nail through it before recycling it. Don’t give identity thieves even more ways to steal your info; their job is already too easy! Now you may be thinking right now, ‘But Ham, what about the money I could get if I sold my cell?’. Maybe the VP I mentioned above can let you in on a little secret. He only got approx. $15 for his old Blackberry. Definitely not worth it for the trouble he got in. So no dice. Nail it, before you get nailed with identity theft.

-The Gloss: Freeware – software that is free to download and use, usually at your own risk, but not available for redistribution for monetary gain. (The Gloss is a section where I will define a tech word for the non-techies so that they won’t go “Ughhrrouuu?” as much when they are reading my blog)

-The World

Am I missing something? So the Israel and Lebanon clash is over, but Israel is still taking a bad rap for “starting” the war. That’s interesting. Last time I checked, “starting” meant to initiate something, not to defend from attacks. I can’t understand why so many people are saying that Israel started this conflict and have no care for innocent lives. Hmmmm. Let’s see. In 2000, Israel pulled out of their security zones in southern Lebanon which gave Hezbollah, a widely known terrorist group in that region of the world, who is also widely known for their hatred of Israel and the U.S., a self-proclaimed victory. And what did Israel get in return? Hezbollah training Palestinian militants in how to better take down Israeli tanks patrolling the Gaza strip. Flash forward to present day and they have three of their soldiers killed, two others kidnapped, and rockets slammed in their face. Okay, I’ll give the critics leeway and say that I flashed forward over a lot, but that’s because most of it was the same Hezbollah group advancing their terrorist tactics at Israel.

But wait, did I flash forward too much? What about all the suicide bombs day after day, week after week that have occurred for many a year and still do in Israel? How many of the same Anti-Israel critics were screaming about innocent lives then? I guess if you dupe people into believing that they will gain an abundance of heavenly rewards by blowing themselves up in crowded Israelite cities to kill as many of the enemy as possible, then it’s okay. But by gum, you better not let a country use it’s military to defend it’s citizens!!! Disclaimer: For those that may be reading this as a cure for insomnia at 2:00AM and may not be all with it, that was sarcasm.

And now I’m not missing something. In typing my comments above, I won’t overlook the plain fact that there are innocent lives truly being lost and it is at Israel’s hand. It is saddening to hear of the Lebanon citizens that were killed, especially the children. But I keep going back to that word “innocent”. How innocent are the Lebanese? Interestingly enough there are known Hezbollah members that hold governmental positions in Lebanon. Say what? And now, some of the same Lebanon people who were innocent this whole time, (the same innocent people who had no qualms about Hezbollah setting up rocket launch sites in their densely populated areas so if Israel retaliated they would be blamed for murder), are reportedly taking cash from Hezbollah to rebuild their homes. Can you say “I O U”? So I guess Hezbollah has their puppets lined up in case it needs the Lebanon people to act stupid again and say that they don’t know about Hezbollah or have any control over the group in the Lebanon country. Of course in all fairness, it was the Lebanese government who said that they have no control over Hezbollah. But the fact remains that now, all has been brought into the light. If Hezbollah attacks Israel again, unprovoked mind you, then there are no more innocent people. You can’t hold drugs for someone and then say it’s not fair that you were arrested. And you can’t hide a terrorist group and benefit from it and then claim that you are innocent.

Interestingly enough, the Bible does tell of wars and rumors of wars towards the end of time. Freeze! Now before you roll your eyes and close your browser, I’m not saying that the end of the world is going to happen tomorrow because of Hezbollah, Iran, North Korea, etc. Quite the contrary. I don’t believe that anyone will know even the slightest hint of when the world will end and the Lord will return. (Psst. Yes I believe in the Lord and His return. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to thump you with my Bible, but it’s my blog and in the words of Popeye, I ams what I ams, and I ams no more.) I don’t believe in all the hype that some hypocrites spew out such as that the world will end next Friday at 1:35PM and if you send them $100 right now, the operator will send you a case of holy blessed Fresca to sprinkle on your house so that you can be saved from the tumultuous events. Nope, none of that makes sense. I only believe in the Lord and the best we can do is pray about the situation and rely on God to do what He does best… run the world according to His own plan.

-Wow. So that was a long second blog and I delved into some sensitive topics. Oh well. As they say, if you are going to parachute, you have to jump. And jump I did.

There is a first blog for everything

- So I know everyone likes to start their first blog out with, "This is my first time blogging", "I've never blogged before", "Blogging is soooo neat!!!", blog diddy blog blog blog. Then their blog reduces to a list of stuff that happened during their day as in: "So I got up this morning and let the dog out. And then I drank some milk, but it was sour and clumpy, and I threw up and then I went to work, and I don't have a life...........". Yes I know, a blog can be a journal or a diary. But come on people, do I need to know that you stubbed your toe into the bathroom door as you made your way into the kitchen to get coffee?

- What's interesting is that the idea of a journal has come a long way. For example, George Washington didn't write in his journal, (at least not that I have read), that "I accidentally dropped my wooden teeth into the horse trough, and Elizabeth Hamfrey mouthed off to the preacher, and....". He wrote about the important events of his journey and\or day, and even gave his opinion sometimes on the events that transpired. I wonder now what good ole' George's blog would be like. Most probably much better than this one.

- And yes, I was a bit harsh above when I typed " and I don't have a life.....". However, if the best thing you can write about every day is the bromidic, trivial goings of the day then am I really being that harsh? But then again the person with no life never realizes that they have no life because they think they have a life. Make sense? And since I think I have a minor bit of a life, then I probably don't have a life at all. Yeah I'm confused too. Moving on...

- I'm an average guy who makes a decent, yet not fantastic, living in IT (but I do feel blessed and thank God for it) as a _________ _________. Oh that's right, I'm not giving out specifics. Kind of want keep the old blog specific-free about the personal details so that there is no retribution when I discuss the technology situations my employer uses. So I'm in IT and I want to use this blog as my own little soapbox for new\old\anything in between IT items. And maybe try to teach the masses with a bit of translation between geek speak and how everyone else talks. BTW(By the way): IT stands for Information Technology and is the genre or department of technology in business.

-----The following section is no longer relevant to the current format of the blog, but left in for historical purposes----

- I also wouldn't mind speaking my mind on how things are going in the world. Not a rant on everything that is wrong with everthing, (and don't get me started), but comments that seek to challenge, and maybe my own opinion as well since the Constitution states I'm entitled to one.

- So starts my political view portfolio all filleted out on the web. Here's my background. Yes, I profess to be a Christian, and not a perfect one mind you, (Side note: If anyone ever claims to be a Christian, but can't seem to do any wrong, they probably need to revaluate what they believe in.) but a Christian who believes in the Original King James Bible and does his best to follow God's word. Okay, by now, the back button has been clicked by many who started reading my first blog. But that's okay. Because I'm not here to force my beliefs on anyone else.

- Also, my political views would probably be labeled conservative-ish, although I don't always believe in what the right wing is doing either. Okay, so there go many more clicks of the Back button. Who am I kidding, there will probably only be three people who accidentally get to this blog, so I'm exagerrating a little. I only politically agree with something if it makes sense and is in agreeance with God's word. You'd be surpised at how much the Bible can be used even in today's society, well especially in today's society (there I go already), to make the hard choices and decisions we face in our lifetime.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- I plan, (notice that small little word "plan") to update my blog atleast once a week, although I'm shooting for three times a week. And as for updating daily, there are the little things like a job, the fam, bills, bills, bills, bills, (sorry, I started in a downward spiral there for a sec), and other things in general that take up precious time. So if you don't see a post for a while, don't worry (as if anyone is going to keep up with or even read this blog anyway), I will eventually post. Trust me, my OCD will kick in and I'll be blogging again in no time.

- So there it is. My first big blog post. Nothing fancy, no big crowds, no celebrities, and no climatic ending. Just a blog.
